About Jim Purcell
I was a trial lawyer for many years and was the managing partner of Partridge, Snow & Hahn, a Providence, RI-based law firm. From 2000 to 2012, I was COO and then CEO of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (“BCBSRI”). Since then, I’ve been a solo alternative dispute resolution (“ADR”) practitioner based in Hyannis, Massachusetts (Cape Cod).
I’m a member of the arbitration and mediation panels of neutrals maintained by the American Health Law Association (“AHLA”) and the American Arbitration Association (“AAA”). I am a member of the AAA National Healthcare Roster and was a charter member of the AAA Healthcare Dispute Resolution Rules Advisory Council which advised on and drafted the AAA Payor/Provider Arbitration Rules and Mediation Procedures.
Legal and subject matter expertise, of course, are givens; but temperament and demeanor are also critically important.
I set a tone in mediations and arbitrations that is professional, reassuring, and responsive, and insist on courtesy and respect by all parties during the dispute resolution process. I work to establish credibility and trust in the process and my role as a true neutral to reassure clients and counsel of fair treatment with the required expertise.
